Arsenal now told player they just took a £25m loss on is ‘nowhere near’ past his best, tipped to become captain
Arsenal are yet to make a signing this summer, but a few senior players have already departed.
Jorginho has joined Flamengo on a free transfer after seeing his contract expire, while Nuno Tavares has moved to Lazio on a permanent basis after spending the 2024/25 campaign on loan in Rome.
Kieran Tierney has also left Arsenal – returning to Celtic on a free transfer – but Scott Brown has now told the Gunners his fellow countryman still has plenty to offer.
Kieran Tierney backed to become captain of Celtic after Arsenal release
Brown – who made 145 appearances alongside Tierney for Celtic before his retirement – has now backed the Scotland international to enjoy many successful years in Glasgow, despite his release from Arsenal suggesting he may have already passed his best.
He’s back for more… | 🍀

The 39-year-old told the : “He’s a very, very good character in and about the place. Everyone loves him because he gives 110%.
“You can see how good he’s got going down the road, working with even better players as well, playing in the Champions League, then going away to Spain.
“It’s a really good fit for the club and also a really good fit for him as well. He’s nowhere near coming to the end of his career. He’s still got a long, long way to go. It’s probably the best move Celtic’s made… you can see longer term, Kieran will probably be next Celtic captain.”

Yesterday's Player of the Match: Kieran Tierney 👏
Tierney, who agreed terms with Celtic in January, made 144 appearances in total for Arsenal, scoring six goals and providing 14 assists, including a strike in his final game for the Gunners during the 2-1 win over Southampton on the final day of last season.
Arsenal paid £25m to sign the Scotsman from Celtic back in August 2019, so the Gunners have taken a significant loss in choosing to release him.
Arsenal could offload another left-back
It’s a good thing Myles Lewis-Skelly started to shine at left-back last season, as Arsenal could weaken this department further following the release of Tierney.
Oleksandr Zinchenko is “extremely likely” to leave Arsenal this summer – according to insider TNATS – with the Gunners actively trying to sell the Ukraine international.
Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber can also play in that position, however, so Arteta and Andrea Berta might choose not to sign direct replacements for Tierney or Zinchenko.
