Arsenal now on ‘red alert’ as Edu Gaspar eyes third summer signing for Mikel Arteta

Arsenal are now delving into the final hours of this summer’s transfer window to find themselves their third signing of the summer.

Mikel Arteta has been handed some improvements to his squad for the 2024/25 campaign as Arsenal look to close down Manchester City at the top of the table.

The Gunners have been made to work in the market when it comes to those two signings made already with negotiations for Riccardo Calafiori taking weeks upon weeks.

Edu Gaspar also hit difficulties in making the second signing of the summer with Mikel Merino having only just been announced by Arsenal this week.

However, there is still room for improvement with the Gunners having failed to bring in an attacking player.

But the Arsenal hierarchy are now looking out for a late opportunity in the market with the clock now ticking down on the Friday deadline.

Arsenal on red alert to sign new winger

A new forward is certainly of interest in north London with Arsenal eyeing the striker options with a late move from Ivan Toney a possibility.

There has also been talk about Arsenal’s interest in Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams this summer which could formalise into an audacious late swoop.

One thing which does appear to be the clear is Arsenal’s desire to act upon an opportunity which may emerge when it comes to a new winger.

According to Jon Cross of the , Arsenal are now on red alert for a winger to pop up in the final 48 hours of the window.

It has been claimed that there is still some room for movement at the Emirates over these final hours with players expected to depart.

Aaron Ramsdale’s Arsenal exit is getting closer with the goalkeeper set to join Southampton.

And that is going to see the Gunners look for a replacement with Arsenal having made a bid for Joan Garcia of Espanyol.

It is suggested a backup up for Bukayo Saka is desired as well as a player who could push Gabriel Martinelli.

Arsenal could look to sign Nico Williams next summer

The report does state Arsenal’s number one choice would be Williams who is of interest to a lot of European clubs.

However, Williams is expected to reject Arsenal and Barcelona interest and remain at Bilbao for another campaign.

This could leave Edu eyeing up a potential swoop for the winger next summer with another year in La Liga under the 22-year-old’s belt.

But it will be interesting to see what Arsenal do in the meantime with a clear need for more options up top this season.
