Arsenal now believe Raheem Sterling ‘really enthusiastic’ about signing for Mikel Arteta on deadline day

Arsenal are looking to make two deadline day signings with new optimism over a potential attacking addition in the final hours of the transfer window.

The Gunners entered the day needing to sign a new goalkeeper with Aaron Ramsdale heading to Southampton.

Arsenal have now picked Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto as their new signing and the Brazilian has undergone a medical.

That deal should go through without any problems but Arsenal are now working on another potential signing.

Arsenal have been linked with wingers all summer long but with dream target Nico Williams unavailable, the Gunners are looking closer to home.

Raheem Sterling’s feelings on Arsenal move

The last few days have been dominated by speculation surrounding Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling potentially moving to Arsenal.

Chelsea have effectively frozen Sterling out under Enzo Maresca and want to move him on before the transfer deadline.

Arsenal want a winger, Chelsea want Sterling to go, Mikel Arteta worked with Sterling at Manchester City… this one seemed to make almost too much sense.

Reports indicated that both as a player and as a person, feeling that he could be a positive influence on the Arsenal squad.

The Telegraph’s Sam Dean now claims that Arsenal feel Sterling is ‘very enthusiastic’ about reuniting with Arteta.

Dean adds that there is now real optimism inside Arsenal that they will manage to get the deal done and bring Sterling to North London before the deadline.

Time is running out but Arsenal are looking into a loan move for Sterling as they attempt to rescue him from his Chelsea freeze-out.

Sterling experience and versatility a factor

Arteta has worked up close and personal with Sterling and knows exactly what he can provide.

The winger maybe hasn’t been at his best since joining Chelsea in 2022 but he has terrorised Premier League full backs for years.

Even in a disjointed Chelsea side, Sterling – hailed as a ‘brilliant’ player by Ben Chiwell, as quoted by – has still managed 19 goals and 12 assists in 81 games.

Sterling still has major quality and his experience of winning trophies at Manchester City may be viewed as a major boost to this Arsenal squad.

Sterling can play on the left flank, offer competition and cover for Bukayo Saka on the right and even play up front if needed.

Add in no long-term commitment to Sterling and this deal looks pretty smart for Arsenal as Arteta chases a late, late reunion.
