Arsenal may be more likely to sign Paqueta than Tielemans – journalist
Journalist Dean Jones that Arsenal may be more likely to sign Lucas Paqueta than Youri Tielemans, simply because of how long the Leicester City star has been ready to make the move to the Emirates.
Another midfielder may well be Mikel Arteta’s priority should another signing come through the door this summer. They have certainly been heavily linked with a few.
Of course, Tielemans seemed to be a key name on their radar. Reports claimed before the season even concluded that the Gunners and the Belgian were both confident that a deal would happen.
However, a few months have now passed. And yet, Tielemans remains a Leicester player. Meanwhile, there have been plenty of links with Paqueta.
Reports have suggested that Arsenal are the side most interested in the Brazilian.
And Jones now believes that a move for Paqueta is more likely, simply down to the fact that Tielemans continues to wait for Arsenal to get a deal done.
“Tielemans has been sat there ready and available for weeks and weeks now. And they’ve even had negotiations on what it would take to sign him, the kind of agreement that would need to be in place. Arsenal know that and can do that,” .
“The fact they haven’t done it does raise some doubt in my mind over quite whether he is the player they still want. So I would edge towards Paqueta at this stage.”
Arsenal more likely to sign Paqueta than Tielemans
It would probably be underwhelming at this stage if Arsenal signed Tielemans. Obviously, he is an amazing player who has enjoyed a really good spell at Leicester.
But, as Jones suggests, a lot has been in place for some time. So there are clearly some reservations at the Emirates about signing him. And a move now will feel like an acceptance that Arsenal have missed out on their top targets.
Paqueta meanwhile, is an ‘‘ talent. He will potentially cost a lot more at £55 million. But it is probably a move that will excite Arsenal fans a lot more at this stage.
