Arsenal managing director insists that there is money to spend
Arsenal managing director Vinai Venkatesham has recently spoken about the club’s transfer budget.
Venkatesham was speaking at an Arsenal Supporters’ Club Q&A session, alongside head of football Raul Sanllehi and new technical director Edu Gaspar.
When asked about whether there is any truth to the , Venkatesham sought to dispel the rumour. As quoted by , Venkatesham said, “I don’t recognise this £40m figure, I have read it a lot. That doesn’t come from us, that doesn’t come from the club. The numbers never come from us…It is true that our funds are more limited after three years in the Europa League, but the budget isn’t £40m. We have the budget to make a difference”.

This response is backed up by the fact that the north London club have agreed a £72 million fee for Nicolas Pepe, according to a recent report.
In any case, it ought to reassure Arsenal fans that there is more cash available for signings at the Emirates Stadium than many thought to be the case. This is crucial, as Arsenal desperately need to improve their squad ahead of the new campaign.
However, should Unai Emery fail to lead the Gunners to Champions League qualification this season, then next summer will be even tougher. Until Arsenal find themselves back at Europe’s top table, their budget will continue to be stretched. It is vital that they spend whatever they have now wisely. Arsenal must ensure that they see a positive return on their investment on the pitch.
