Arsenal’s forgotten man scores rocket this weekend, Arteta doesn’t want him

Arsenal might end up living to regret their decision to let Konstantinos Mavropanos leave the club, as the defender showed a different side to his game this weekend for Stuttgart.

The Greek star, who Arsenal let out on loan once again and will sell for just £2.5m in the summer, scored an absolute rocket as Stuttgart drew 1-1 with Borussia M’Gladbach this weekend.

The goal was doing the rounds on social media, and you can see the stunning hit from Mavropanos just below.

The 23-year-old defender is said to not feature in Mikel Arteta’s plans at all going forward. The Gunners boss is happy to let Mavropanos go, despite a lack of depth in his own team at centre-half.

Mavropanos has found himself out on loan for the majority of his time with Arsenal. However, he’s coming into his own in Germany, and has started all of Stuttgart’s Bundesliga games this season.

If he carries on as he is, with the odd rocket like he produced this weekend, then the Gunners might regret inserting that £2.5m clause into the deal.

TBR’s View: Mavropanos leaving Arsenal will be good for him

Obviously, Arteta has made his mind up early on the Greek star. But the £2.5m fee does seem awfully low in the modern game.

Regardless, it’s a plus sign for Mavropanos. He will simply want to keep playing football and he is doing just that over in Germany.

A fresh start can be what’s needed at times for players. At 23, he has ample time to live his career out and he might well build his way back to the top.
