Arsenal loanee Eddie Nketiah on how Ian Wright is helping him at Leeds
Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah joined Leeds United on this summer.
The 20-year-old is a graduate of the Gunners’ academy and is very highly thought of at the Emirates Stadium. Unai Emery has already shown a lot of faith in the youngster. Nketiah already has 19 first team appearances for Arsenal to his name and has notched three goals.
However, it was clearly felt that Nketiah required more regular football in order to continue his development. The north London club will be keeping a keen eye on him at Elland Road.
Nketiah has made a fine start to life with the Whites, and has already bagged three goals for his new club. Manager Marcelo Bielsa will also help the youngster improve his all round game. However, the Argentine coach is not Nketiah’s only role model. He has credited the legendary former Arsenal striker Ian Wright with having an influence on his burgeoning career.

Speaking in a press conference, as quoted by , Nketiah said, “he’s been a massive help, and nice to have around…He’s taken a real liking, and it’s just a dream come true. As a kid I always looked up to him and watched his clips. For him to be taking such an active role and supporting and coming down to watch the games is great for me. He gives a lot of advice, a bit like a little mentor. I just try to learn and get everything I can from him because he’s been a top player and had a great career”.
TBR’s view
Wright is one of the greatest goalscorers to have graced the Premier League. His insight could prove invaluable for Nketiah. There is certainly so much for the youngster to learn from the one-time leading Arsenal goalscorer.
Arsenal fans will also be pleased to see the legend taking such an interest in Nketiah. It bodes well that Wright has such faith in the England under-21 international’s talent and potential.
