Arsenal-linked star wins Player of the Season award, has 30 goal contributions this term

Reported Arsenal target Emiliano Buendia has won the Player of the Season award at Norwich following an impressive campaign culminating in promotion back to the Premier League.

reported in December that the Canaries star was on Arsenal’s transfer shortlist and that Gunners manager Mikel Arteta is a big admirer of the Argentine.

And in March, claimed that the north Londoners are planning to revisit the situation at the end of the season and are expected to make an offer for Buendia.

The 24-year-old has weighed in with 14 goals and 16 assists in the Championship this term, and his efforts saw him voted the club’s Player of the Season ahead of Grant Hanley and Oliver Skipp.

“It’s something special to receive this award. It’s been a nice season for me and the whole team,” Buendia told the Norwich .

“It’s very good to feel this love from the fans and they gave me this chance to win the trophy.

“I will always be a canary for life. I don’t know what will happen in the future but I will always support this amazing club and I enjoy every minute playing for this shirt.”

And later on on Thursday, Buendia followed up his club POTS award by the Championship Player of the Season accolade.

Buendia was impressive enough in the Premier League last season, and back in the Championship, he’s clearly shown he’s a cut above.

With Norwich heading back to the top flight, it’ll be trickier for Arsenal to convince him to make a move.

That said, the Canaries’ business model involves turning talented youngsters and hidden gems into stars to then be sold at a profit.

“We bring forward young players and they’re really good,” Delia Smith told the FT Business of Football summit in February, as quoted by .

“We’re really proud of James Maddison and Ben Godfrey, it’s lovely for us. It’s what we do. We can’t hang onto players.”

So Norwich may not necessarily be completely averse to selling Buendia – but he won’t come cheap.
