Arsenal-linked 21-year-old who Lothar Matthaus called a ‘huge player’ makes decision on his future

Reported Arsenal target Dayot Upamecano has made a decision on his future, but unfortunately it’s not good news for the Gunners.

Arsenal have been linked with the Frenchman for a number of months, with claiming earlier in July that he was top of Mikel Arteta’s wishlist.

Numerous other clubs, including Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, have also been linked with Upamecano’s services (), as have Manchester City and United ().

Aside from the plaudits sent Upamecano’s way, the France Under-21 defender’s displays have often spoken for themselves, in particular his shutout of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski in the goalless draw between the two sides earlier this year.

“He is a young player, he is highly talented, he’s fast, has a good positional game and he uses his body well for his 21 years old,” Bundesliga legend Lothar Matthaus previously told .

“I can still see one or two percent where he can learn. But, as I said, he’s a huge player and that’s why I’m not surprised that the top clubs in Europe are after him.”

A tall, strong centre-back with explosive pace and superb reading of the game, it’s unsurprising to see the Premier League’s top sides having been linked with him, but even though he’s still young and could yet come to England in future, it most likely won’t be this summer.
