Arsenal likely to make move for defender this summer if he doesn’t sign new contract

Arsenal are likely to hold off on making a move for Jorrel Hato until the summer transfer window – if the Ajax starlet does not sign a new contract in the meantime.

Jorrel Hato appears to be one of the most exciting talents coming through across Europe right now. The 17-year-old – who was born the day before a goalless draw against Real Madrid sent the Gunners through to the quarter-final of the Champions League in 2006 – has been a stalwart of the Ajax side this season.

Liverpool have previously been linked with Hato. Meanwhile, Arsenal also have Hato on their radar.

But it seems that Gunners fans hoping to see the defender end up at the Emirates in the January transfer window are set for disappointment.

According to a report from , Arsenal are likely to delay a move for Hato until the end of the season. But they may put off a move once again if he decides to sign a new deal with the Eredivisie giants. His current contract is set to expire at the end of next season, as shown by .

Gunners interest may leave defender with plenty to ponder as Ajax look to agree new contract

News of Arsenal’s interest will leave Hato with plenty of food for thought. He hinted, when discussing Jurrien Timber’s move to North London, that a similar move would be a dream for him.

Ajax have recovered after an awful start to the season. And of course, he does not turn 18 until later this year. So he may not be in a huge rush to move.

But if he does decide to leave, heading to Arsenal would be a great move. Mikel Arteta has helped elevate the Gunners. And he has not been afraid to put his faith in younger players.

So perhaps it would be a surprise if Arsenal did not look to at least ask the question about signing Hato in the summer.
