‘Shame’: Arsenal fans disappointed as Krystian Bielik joins Derby permanently

Arsenal have this afternoon allowed defender Krystian Bielik to join Championship outfit Derby County,

The Poland under-21 international leaves the Emirates Stadium having played just twice for the first-team since joining from Legia Warsaw in 2015.

Derby have paid a club-record fee for the defender, believed to be in the region of £10 million,

It does seem perhaps odd that Arsenal have allowed a defender to leave the club.

There need for defenders is pretty desperate, with huge doubts over Shkodran Mustafi, who could also depart this summer.

Bielik, who won promotion to the Championship with Charlton last season, can also operate in a defensive midfield role.

It seems likely that Arsenal may use the funds raised from selling Bielik to fund a defender or two of their own and that is certainly what their fans expect.

Following this afternoon’s announcement, several Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to state their thoughts on the deal done by the Gunners.

The overriding feeling is of optimism that boss Unai Emery will add a defender to his ranks prior to the forthcoming transfer deadline. Many, however, are disappointed at the departure.
