Arsenal landing £37m Sampdoria duo would represent solid summer of spending
Arsenal finished their 2018/19 campaign with a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Chelsea in the Europa League Final.
The result meant that boss Unai Emery won’t lead his side in next season’s Champions League and also means restrictions to his transfer budget for the summer.
A smaller budget won’t help Emery rebuild his squad to the point which he needs to and he will need to prioritise what needs fixing first.
Arsenal have bid £37 million for both Joachim Andersen and Dennis Praet from Sampdoria.

Although £37 million would decimate the Gunners’ budget, it is a double swoop that would represent sound summer business for the club.
Andersen’s arrival would be a sensational coup. Arsenal are desperate for an uncompromising central defender to arrive and the big Dane fits that billing.
The 23-year-old played 34 games in all competitions last season and was one of Serie A’s standout defenders. His 6ft 4in frame makes him a commanding influence and Arsenal desperately need that aerial presence.
Praet is a central midfielder in the box-to-box mould. Again, it is an area of concern for the Gunners and the Belgian would be seen as a coup.

Arsenal need a replacement for Aaron Ramsey who has departed for Juventus and Praet would fill that void with aplomb.
Emery needs to be savvy this summer after the failure to reach the Champions League. He must ensure that the spine of the team, in particular, is stronger going into next season.
Praet and Andersen would definitely bolster the squad and even if no other additions were made, the Gunners would be in better shape than they were during 2018/19.
