TBR View: Jerome Boateng could solve defensive woes at Arsenal

Arsenal are under new management with Mikel Arteta the man tasked with reviving the club’s fortunes.

The Spaniard replaced Unai Emery who was sacked in November after 18 months in charge at the Emirates.

His first home game in charge ended in defeat on Sunday, with Chelsea winning 2-1 against Arteta’s team.

The January transfer window opens tomorrow and Arteta might choose to make a couple of additions to his ranks.

One man who has been linked with a move to London is Jerome Boateng who is down the pecking order at Bayern Munich.

have linked the German with a January move to Arsenal, with the 31-year-old down the pecking order with the reigning champions.

Arsenal’s defending has been nothing short of shocking this season and Boateng could be a quality addition.

The £78,000-a-week defender played 24 times for Manchester City earlier in his career. That spell wasn’t overly fruitful but he has since earnt his stripes with Bayern.

After settling for the erratic David Luiz in the summer, Arsenal’s next defensive recruit must be one boasting real quality.

Experience

Boateng can be that player and he would represent a significant improvement on anything Arsenal currently have.

The 76-cap international has won seven Bundesliga titles, the World Cup, Champions League and four German Super Cups.

Arsenal are at a pivotal period in their season. All is not lost just yet, although a run of good form will be needed if they are to qualify for Europe next season.

January is never an easy time to sign players but the Gunners could seriously improve their squad by adding Boateng.

The battering ram of a defender oozes class, is good on the ball and his experience could help a young Arsenal squad.
