Arsenal have been linked with Alex Grimaldo in recent days.

Now, a report from Portugal has claimed the Gunners could soon step up their efforts to sign him.

A €7m offer (around £6m) is apparently expected for him.

This is an amount which ‘pleases’ Benfica and would be enough to convince them into selling.

Any deal happening would then depend on Grimaldo accepting the move, added the report.

Indeed, Benfica have already eyed up a replacement for him in Borussia Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro.

Guerreiro, like Grimaldo, is in the final year of his current contract.

As the reported Arsenal target ‘does not want to renew’, this opens the door for the Gunners to sign him.

Arsenal could land themselves bargain in Grimaldo – TBR View

Grimaldo has developed into one of the Primeira Liga’s finest players over the past few years.

He has bagged 14 goals and 40 assists from 143 top flight appearances in Portugal.

In his most recent season, Grimaldo provided 10 goal contributions in just 28 outings.

Given Kieran Tierney is first choice at Arsenal, whoever comes in would likely be a deputy.

And for around £6m, Mikel Arteta would be getting himself a talented, experienced player.

Indeed, Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola was eyeing Grimaldo last summer.

And now, Arsenal could potentially land him for a mere £6m – sounds like a bargain.
