Arsenal in contact over £52m attacker likened to Vinicius Jr, his club’s in financial difficulties

Arsenal have had a fairly slow start to the summer transfer window, with one signing over the line so far.

On Tuesday, Arsenal completed the signing of Spain goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea for a reported £5million fee.

The Gunners are looking to strengthen their attacking ranks, with a host of forwards having been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent months.

Now, Arsenal are reported to have set their sights on a £52million-rated player who has been likened to Vinicius Jr.

Arsenal among clubs keen on Lyon’s Malick Fofana

According to Miguel Delaney, Arsenal are among a host of clubs “in contact” over Lyon attacker Malick Fofana.

However, the Gunners are far from alone in pursuit of Fofana, with Chelsea, Liverpool, Fulham and Nottingham Forest also keen on the 20-year-old.

Fofana also has admirers on the continent, with Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Napoli also in contact over the Belgium international.

Lyon have set a price of €60million (around £52million) for Fofana, according to Delaney’s article in The Independent.

The journalist claims Lyon need to sell players amid financial difficulties that have seen them demoted from Ligue 1, though they are appealing that decision.

However, the amount of interest in Fofana means Lyon could be in a position to drive the player’s price up and potentially spark a bidding war.

As things stand, no club is close to a breakthrough over Fofana, added Delaney.

What Malick Fofana could bring to Arsenal

Fofana enjoyed a superb breakthrough season with Lyon last term, registering 11 goals and six assists from 41 outings in all competitions.

The 20-year-old, who can play across the entire front line, also made his senior international debut with Belgium last season.

Delaney has described Fofana as ‘one of Europe’s most promising talents’ and said he has shown some ‘eye-catching modern play’.

Meanwhile, Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig previously likened Fofana to Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr and Barcelona icon Pedro.
