Arsenal have slashed their asking price for player Ian Wright once called a ‘phenomenon’

With Friday’s transfer deadline looming, Arsenal and Edu still have a lot to sort in terms of players leaving and arriving in north London.

Eddie Nketiah is now close to leaving Arsenal for Crystal Palace, a move that could have a positive repercussions for the Gunners.

If Nketiah departs, Mikel Arteta then may be able to add the extra attacker he’s been craving this summer, someone to compete with Bukayo Saka on the right.

Arteta has the likes of Reiss Nelson at his disposal, but Hale-Ender isn’t quite at the level to push Saka on.

Nelson could still leave Arsenal himself, which would be another considerable step in the right direction for the Gunners.

That being said, in terms of English talent departing north London, Aaron Ramsdale has appeared as one of the more obvious candidates since the start of the summer.

Although it was surprising at first that David Raya replaced Ramsdale, that decision has now been well-justified.

And it now seems best for all parties that Ramsdale seeks an Arsenal exit.

Arsenal now willing to accept a loss on Aaron Ramsdale before deadline day

Earlier in the summer, it was reported that Arsenal wanted at least £50m for Ramsdale – they were digging their heels in.

However, a few months later, are now reporting that Wolverhampton Wanderers could potentially agree a deal for £20m before Friday’s deadline.

Via the same report, Arsenal paid an initial £24m to sign Ramsdale from Sheffield United in 2021, meaning the Gunners could be willing to accept a loss.

Of course, that will be a frustrating turn of events from an Arsenal fan point of view, it wasn’t so long ago that Ramsdale was named in the PFA Team of the Year.

For context, that means Arsenal could end up selling Ramsdale for a smaller fee than Nketiah this week.

That’s not to say that Nketiah isn’t worth the price that Palace are willing to pay, but Ramsdale has certainly been more valuable to Arsenal.

Ian Wright once called the goalkeeper a ‘’ for what he was achieving between the sticks for Arsenal.

And perhaps Edu may ultimately be better off seeking a loan move this month if value can’t be achieved on a permanent transfer.
