Report: Arsenal have now made their move to sign £17m man, a year after Tottenham registered their interest
Arsenal have made a move to try and sign Benfica left-back Alex Grimaldo, with the Portuguese club set to accept a lower price for the defender.
Portuguese outlet reports how the Gunners have been in contact with the player’s agents about a move to The Emirates. It comes as Arsenal continue to explore the market this summer, despite already landing a host of new players.
suggests that Benfica could now accept a deal in the region of £6m to sell Grimaldo. That would be quite the bargain for a player who just weeks ago was being tipped to move for around £17m. At that time, were also said to be interested in Grimaldo.

Interestingly, Grimaldo is yet another player who Arsenal’s neighbours, Tottenham, have looked at. Just last year the left-back was linked with both Spurs and Juventus, but remained with Benfica. However, he could now be on the move with Arsenal looking at a bargain deal.
Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen his entire squad and Kieran Tierney’s injury and the up and down performances from Nuno Tavares mean the left side of the back four could be looked at.
TBR’s View: Grimaldo Could Be A Useful Addition For Arsenal
Among the big money and names arriving this summer, Arsenal also need to try and pick up a bargain where they can and Grimaldo would certainly fit into that category.
The left-back is a good operator and has done well with Benfica. Indeed, he was to be one of the very best left-backs in the world by those higher up at Benfica.
At 26, the Spaniard is of a good age to come to England and make an impression on things with Arsenal. Of course, Tierney will be the main man, but having competition from someone like Grimaldo will help everyone.
