Arsenal have a lifeline in race to sign ‘incredible’ talent as London rivals close in on transfer – TBR View

Bryan Gil’s transfer to Tottenham might seem unimportant to Arsenal, but the move could result in the Gunners finally signing Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.

As , the 20-year-old Spanish playmaker is close to signing for Spurs. Erik Lamela will go the other way, and in doing so will improve Tottenham’s squad in a one-two punch.

Arsenal can finally land Aouar

Indeed, Arsenal were once linked with the former FC Barcelona academy prospect earlier in the window.

Yet Tottenham signing the winger could open the door for the Gunners to pull off a deal Arsenal fans have been waiting on for some time.

Aouar has been heavily rumoured with both Arsenal and Spurs in recent weeks. With the latest publication to link the two north London clubs to the 23-year-old midfielder.

Yet the signing of Gil could give the Gunners the second wind they need to sign Aouar this window, a player Pep Guardiola once lauded as ‘incredible’ as .

After all, Arsenal were consistently linked with the youngster last year. Rumours were circulating about Mikel Arteta’s interest in the midfielder well over a year ago.

And now, the north London side have been handed a lifeline in the race for Aouar. With Lyon needing to sell this summer, Arsenal will be foolish to let this opportunity slip through their fingers.

Whilst Gil and Aouar play in different positions, their skillsets on paper are extremely similar.

The two creators are both fine technical players who enjoy mazy runs with their main intentions being to get the ball into good areas and to help teammates.

At 20, Gil could well develop into a more central player for Tottenham. And for Arsenal, the Spaniard joining their rivals gives Arteta’s side a chance to clinch the signature for Aouar.
