Arsenal hand ‘hugely talented’ 14-year-old with squad number after impressing Mikel Arteta last season

Arsenal are still awaiting their first signing of the summer transfer window with the Gunners putting a real trust in youth.

Mikel Arteta‘s side are still working to end their transfer drought following the conclusion of this summer’s Euros and Copa America.

Riccardo Calafiori is the name on the lips of all Arsenal fans with the Gunners looking to close a deal with Bologna to sign the centre-back.

It is claimed Calafiori has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal but the two clubs are attempting to reach an agreement when it comes to their valuation of the player.

Although there is work being done in the window, Arsenal are also working on some of the players already at the club with faith clearly being put in one of their young talents.

Arsenal show their faith in 14-year-old talent

One homegrown talent could now be headed for the exit door this summer in Emile Smith Rowe.

Arsenal have received an offer from Fulham for the midfielder but have taken little time in knocking the proposal back.

But the Gunners are said to be open to the possibility of selling the 23-year-old over the coming weeks.

However, there is one Arsenal academy prospect who is not looking to be moved on any time soon with the north London club now showing their trust in his potential.

According to , Arsenal have now handed 14-year-old Max Dowman with a squad number for the upcoming campaign.

The midfielder has been allocated the 99 shirt despite technically being part of Arsenal’s U15s side.

Last season, Dowman trained with Mikel Arteta’s first team and featured seven times in the U18 Premier League.

In the report, Bird hailed Dowman as ‘hugely talented’ which can be seen through the 14-year-old’s involvement in first team training.

What Jack Wilshere said about Max Dowman

Speaking following an Arsenal U18 game, former player and current youth coach Jack Wilshere shared his admiration for Dowman.

However, the former midfielder was keen to keep a level head when praising the youngster who still has a long way to go in his career before even reaching the age of 17 to become professional.

“He can be more consistent but he’s only 14 and hasn’t even started his GCSEs yet,” Wilshere told the .

“We need to find a balance of letting him play and enjoy because of his age but also trying to get as much work into him as we can.”
