Journalist: Arsenal ready to sell ‘magnificent’ player for just £10m this summer

Arsenal will look to bring in around half of what they paid for Bernd Leno when they sell him this summer, according to Goal journalist and Gunners specialist, Charles Watts.

Leno is expected to move on this summer and will be into the final year of his contract. The Gunners have already moved to sign Matt Turner, who will come in and replace Leno as Aaron Ramsdale’s number two. There has been interest in the German stopper, too, with Newcastle among the clubs said to be keen on him.

And according to Watts, Arsenal will look to bring in around £10m for Leno if they can, with a £15m figure the top end the Gunners can hope to land.

“Arsenal will look to get some money in for Bernd. They aren’t going to get what they paid for him but I imagine Arsenal will be looking to generate around £10-15m for Bernd. You would imagine he’s going to end up heading back to Germany if he can,” Watts said on his own

Arsenal around £20m for Leno back in 2018 and he has, in the main, been a good player and servant for the club.

However, Ramsdale’s emergence this season after Leno had a shaky start to the season has seen the experienced German benched.

TBR’s View: £10m Is Good Money For Arsenal For Leno

They can’t really expect much more, can they? A goalkeeper into the final 12 months of his deal, not playing, and with no sniff of ever regaining the number one spot. Put simply, Arsenal will just have to take what they can and if that’s around £10m, then they can’t really grumble too much.

Leno has been good for the Gunners and does have more to offer someone else. But if Arsenal can generate the fee Watts mentions here, then it will be happy days for Edu. Mikel Arteta did call Leno ‘magnificent’. But now, with Ramsdale in as number one, those comments seem a distant memory.
