Arsenal fans expect Cristhian Mosquera to replace Takehiro Tomiyasu

On Friday, Arsenal confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu has left after both parties agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent.

Tomiyasu, who made 84 appearances for Arsenal after signing from Bologna in 2021, still had a year left on his contract, with a further year’s option.

However, with Tomiyasu continuing to recover from a long-term knee injury, the decision has been made for him to start a new chapter elsewhere.

Now, Arsenal fans believe Cristhian Mosquera is set to be Tomiyasu’s replacement at the Emirates Stadium.

“If Tomiyasu was consistently available, then it would not be so wise for Arsenal to sign Mosquera,” one fan wrote on X.

“But he isn’t available consistently. And now he is gone.

“Plus Mosquera has a higher ceiling than him anyway (more mobile, less flat-footed, more technically dynamic). Smart move.”

Another fan speculated: “Tomiyasu definitely only allowed to leave because Mosquera is getting closer.”

The comments kept coming, with one fan writing: “Reckon Mosquera news breaks soon especially with Tomi officially gone.”

Another said: “Ahh Tomi… brilliant player, but understandable as it just feels like his time here has been cursed.

“Hopefully in a less intense league he can recover and get back to fitness. Mosquera coming in means the right side of defence is now locked too.”

Another supporter wrote: “Wondering if it’ll be Mosquera +1 given that Tomi has left or was it always the plan to terminate and replace with Mosquera?”

Declan Rice was among the Arsenal players who wished Tomiyasu well after he sent a heartfelt farewell message to the club and their fans.

Meanwhile, Arsenal supporters also bemoaned Tomiyasu’s departure, wishing things could have worked out differently amid his injury troubles.
