Arsenal fans react to reports linking David Luiz with contract extension
David Luiz could be handed a new one-year deal at Arsenal, and supporters have been reacting to the news on Twitter.
The Brazilian has started 12 games this season and his leadership qualities are rated highly by boss Mikel Arteta.
He played the full 90 minutes yesterday as Arsenal defeated Leeds 4-2 at the Emirates Stadium, with this update emerging shortly afterwards.
Luiz made the cross London switch from Chelsea in the summer of 2019 and has played 63 times for the Gunners.

The 33-year-old is vastly experienced having spent time with the Blues and in France with PSG during his career.
He made his name in Europe with Portuguese outfit Benfica and has enjoyed a decent career for himself.
Luiz has played 56 times for his country but it’s perhaps something of a surprise that a new contract is in the offing.
Arsenal have Gabriel, Rob Holding and Pablo Mari at the club, with William Saliba and Konstantinos Mavropanos currently out on loan.
Some supporters do believe it’s not a bad move, however, with many happy with his performances during the current campaign.
Luiz is perhaps a strong influence in the dressing room and that must be in Arteta’s thoughts.
Here is what Arsenal fans are saying about the Luiz potentially being handed a new contract.
There’s no issue with this, we have a largely inexperienced young defence so having a senior player there to help makes sense, contrary to reports he’s clearly respected in the dressing room and he’s been brilliant for some of our youngsters

It's a good deal, he can offer a lot of experience and necessarily leadership. Gabriel and Saliba are young and are the future of our defense. Mari, Holding and Chambers could all be in rotation. We then use our money in other positions like right back, left back, midfield etc

That 8 million price tag is clearly justified now. David Luiz has been solid this season. Always has a rash moment in him But he is clearly respected by the youngsters in the dressing room. A future manager for sure in my opinion.

Some fans banter David Luiz unnecessarily.
All I know is, he's got the experience. Does he make mistakes? Even VVD messed up for an. Arsenal goal last season.
Does he deserve a contract extension? Yes, he does. Does he improve the squad? Yeah.
So then, why not?

The only leader we have, don’t underestimate the positive impact he is having in the dressing room, he is a good player on his day as well.

I think that Luiz is pretty decent this season, he’s helping massively with in a build up play and has avoided making mistakes like he did last year. If they don’t give him huge wages I have nothing against a one-year extension.

Good, football isint only about on the pitch, he's a quality back up and is clearly great for the youngsters experience. Anybody saying no to this doesn't have a clue about football. It's simple really. 😂🤦♂️
