Arsenal fans react to reports linking David Luiz with contract extension

David Luiz could be handed a new one-year deal at Arsenal, and supporters have been reacting to the news on Twitter.

The Brazilian has started 12 games this season and his leadership qualities are rated highly by boss Mikel Arteta.

He played the full 90 minutes yesterday as Arsenal defeated Leeds 4-2 at the Emirates Stadium, with this update emerging shortly afterwards.

Luiz made the cross London switch from Chelsea in the summer of 2019 and has played 63 times for the Gunners.

The 33-year-old is vastly experienced having spent time with the Blues and in France with PSG during his career.

He made his name in Europe with Portuguese outfit Benfica and has enjoyed a decent career for himself.

Luiz has played 56 times for his country but it’s perhaps something of a surprise that a new contract is in the offing.

Arsenal have Gabriel, Rob Holding and Pablo Mari at the club, with William Saliba and Konstantinos Mavropanos currently out on loan.

Some supporters do believe it’s not a bad move, however, with many happy with his performances during the current campaign.

Luiz is perhaps a strong influence in the dressing room and that must be in Arteta’s thoughts.

Here is what Arsenal fans are saying about the Luiz potentially being handed a new contract.
