Arsenal fans react to Frenkie de Jong’s comments about the club

Frenkie de Jong has joined Barcelona this summer from Ajax but has said he planned to join Arsenal in between.

, via the Sun, de Jong has said he wanted to follow the Marc Overmars route when he was a younger player.

He : “In my mind, I have had the following list for a long time: Ajax-Arsenal-Barcelona, call it the Marc Overmars route.

“But then again, if you can go directly to Barcelona, then you are right where you want to be. Faster than you ever dared to dream.”

In truth, as it stands, Arsenal are not in a position to buy the brightest talents in world football, among which de Jong most certainly is right now.

That’s because of their financial situation and also because they’re not in the Champions League – which must be painful for some of the fans who took to Twitter to react to the statements.

But some were also annoyed with de Jong for his comments about potentially using Arsenal as a stepping stone – despite the reality of world football being these days that Barcelona and Real Madrid sit at the summit.
