The club confirmed the deal this afternoon on the and he will link up with Cardiff ahead of next season.

McGuinness played 26 times for Ipswich last season. He originally caught the eye playing against the Tractor Boys in the EFL Trophy.

Playing regular men’s football is something which he clearly enjoyed. That aspect will be one which he has considered when choosing to make a permanent switch to Cardiff.

McGuiness plays as a centre-back and as an uncompromising figure he will fit Mick McCarthy’s setup nicely.

Cardiff failed to reach the play-offs last season and that will be the aim for 2021/22.

Arsenal supporters not happy with McGuinness departure

The Gunners faithful have a nice connection with the academy and they love seeing their own players star.

Many had felt that the centre-back could make the step up and play in the first-team at the Emirates Stadium.

The 20-year-old looks set for a really bright future and for Arsenal fans it’ll be intriguing to see how he gets on.

The Gunners will probably try and sign another defender themselves this summer. Mikel Arteta will be desperately keen to improve upon the eighth-place finish last season.

Ben White has been linked, whilst William Saliba could be like a new signing after his loan spell with Nice.

Fans aren’t happy though and as a result, some would have preferred another loan spell for McGuinness.

Here is what they had to say on Twitter after today’s news regarding the burly central defender.
