Arsenal fans react as Champions League defender’s agent confirms ‘constant’ talks
Arsenal are interested in completing a deal to sign Shakhtar Donetsk defender Mykola Matviyenko before the end of the window, with his agent confirming “constant” talks – and Gunners fans have reacted on Twitter to the reported news.
Ukraine international Matviyenko, 23, has broken into the starting line-up at Shakhtar over the past couple of years – clocking up 61 appearances for the Ukranian giants in total and being a crucial part of their Champions League campaigns.
Even this season, the 26-time international has clocked up every single minute of Shakhtar’s six Champions League group matches – featuring twice against Manchester City and helping his side earn a respectable six points.
It remains to be seen how much Matviyenko would cost, but he is certainly highly-rated in his home country. He has won all 14 league games he has played in this season, and his agent Yuriy Danchenko has confirmed talks with Arsenal.

“For the last time, my colleagues and I have been constantly in contact with representatives of the Arsenal, and have meetings,” “The Gunners’ trustees have already contacted Shakhtar, and we hope that these negotiations will succeed.”
The report does not claim how much Arsenal will need to spend to sign the player, but the Gunners certainly need a centre-back and there is growing confidence that a deal can be completed before the end of the window.
Arsenal fans reacted to the reported news that their club were targeting the Shakhtar defender, and many are desperate to see the Ukraine man sign on at The Emirates in the near future.
