Arsenal fans react as 21-year-old talent receives international call-up
Arsenal haven’t had much to shout about so far during the 2021/22 campaign. They’ve lost both of their opening Premier League games without scoring a goal. The Gunners did, however, win 6-0 at West Brom last night and today Albert Sambi Lokonga has been called up to the Belgium squad.
The youngster has been a shining light during the opening two games. He has been called up for Belgium previously, although he wasn’t named in the squad for Euro 2020.
Lokonga has cost Arsenal and he already looks like being a steady player. An injury to Thomas Partey has helped him kick-start his career at the Emirates Stadium.

Plenty of supporters wondered whether the 21-year-old would be a first-team regular from the off. With Mohamed Elneny, Granit Xhaka and Partey at the club, his chances might have looked slim.
Lokonga played 78 times for Anderlecht before arriving at Arsenal. He was a regular in Vincent Kompany’s team last season and became an integral part of the team.
Arsenal were among a clutch of clubs who wanted him in the summer. Edu was adamant he wanted him at the club though and decided to pounce on the youngster.
Amid some big-money deals, the signing of Lokonga could well turn out to be the best piece of business the Gunners do this summer.
What have Arsenal fans had to say about Lokonga?
It’s fair to say they are pleased for their player. Although they don’t necessarily agree with the large sums forked out for Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale, they are happy with Lokonga.

Some fans are a bit sceptical that he might get injured during his link-up with Roberto Martinez’s team; such has been their luck in the past with international players.
Plenty are happy for him though and have taken to Twitter to speak of their pride at seeing him make the step up. Here is what they had to say about the Belgian star.
