Arsenal fans now feel “sick” after hearing “embarrassing” transfer news, it is “really annoying”

It is still early days, although the summer transfer window is not yet going to plan for Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta faces a significant summer after guiding Arsenal to just one final since replacing Unai Emery in 2019 – pressure is growing on the Spaniard as patience turns to expectation at the Emirates Stadium.

There has already been one setback, as Nico Williams begins talks with Athletic Bilbao over a new contract, despite rumours Arsenal expected the Spain international to join.

Now, a second problem has arisen involving another Spain international in Martin Zubimendi.

This is a pretty seismic development.

Arsenal looked to have signed Zubimendi in a £50m move – even the reliable Fabrizio Romano gave the story his trademark “here we go” to confirm the news.

The BBC even reported that the Real Sociedad No.4 was having a medical in London, although the central midfielder himself has now shot these rumours down during an interview with Radiogaceta de los Deportes.

quote Zubimendi as saying: “Of course there are options, but it’s true that it seems like it’s going to be a different, long summer, and I don’t know how it will end. Many times I wake up in the morning and read things that I didn’t know I had done.

“That (talk of a medical) was a clear example. It’s true that I don’t take it very seriously, but anyway, I uploaded those photos (of himself on the beach) to emphasise a little that it wasn’t exactly the reality that was happening.”

After reading these comments, Arsenal fans are losing patience.

One wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “Last time I saw something like this was when Cesc (Fabregas) was putting on a (Barcelona) kit. I’m sick to my stomach right now.”

A second Arsenal supporter then posted: “Not even a week (into) this transfer window and I already want it to end.”

Elsewhere, a third Arsenal fan wrote: “(I) don’t wanna imagine a world where this (deal) gets hijacked, the meltdown will be scary.”

Real Madrid are keen to sign Zubimendi and could be the side to pinch him from Arsenal, a situation the 26-year-old touched upon in his interview, having previously worked with Xabi Alonso at Real Sociedad.

The man from San Sebastian said: “I have always said that he was my idol and that for me it was lucky that he was able to coach me in the reserve team in a very important year. The following year I was already in the first team.”

Furthermore, a fourth fan admitted they “made a mistake supporting Arsenal” after hearing the comments.

A fifth Arsenal fan opted to turn on Zubimendi himself rather than blame the Gunners, saying: “This guy is really annoying me. Don’t come then.”

Last but not least, a sixth Arsenal supporter delivered a very emotive message, posting: “Well, this is embarrassing and sickening. The guy clearly does not fancy or rate Arsenal. Why are we so clownish when it comes to transfers and trophies?

“(Are) Arsenal saying this is the only (central midfielder) with the (required) attributes? Shameful.”

Liverpool fans can sympathise with Arsenal

Those at Anfield know all too well that a transfer saga involving the Spaniard can be pretty tough to follow.

Liverpool tried to sign Zubimendi last summer after Arne Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp, but after a protracted saga, the Real Sociedad academy graduate opted to stay with his boyhood club, and the Reds ultimately failed to sign an alternative.

Therefore, Liverpool will know exactly how Arsenal fans are feeling, as the midfielder once again expresses indecisiveness in a transfer window.
