Arsenal eyeing midfielder with ‘world-class potential’ likened to Patrick Vieira as Thomas Partey replacement
Arsenal are yet to get up and running in the summer transfer window ahead of a huge 2025/26 season.
With Arsenal finishing second in the Premier League table once again, the pressure on Mikel Arteta to deliver the trophy will increase manifold next term.
However, Arsenal are widely reported to be closing in on Martin Zubimendi, and there have been links between the Gunners and a host of forwards.
Now, a report has emerged claiming Arsenal have set their sights on another midfielder who could potentially replace Thomas Partey.

Arsenal eyeing Sevilla’s Lucien Agoume
The player in question is Lucien Agoume, who plies his trade for La Liga side Sevilla and has also been capped for France’s Under-21s.
Spanish football journalist Maximo Ramirez has reported that Arsenal are monitoring Agoume’s situation as a potential replacement for Partey.
As it stands, Arsenal are not believed to have made contact with Agoume’s camp.
However, Ramirez also claimed Sevilla ‘would buy the remaining 40 percent’ of Agoume’s registration.
Premier League rules require a club to own 100 percent of a player’s registration, so it remains to be seen whether this could pose a problem for Arsenal if talks get under way.
What Lucien Agoume could bring to Arsenal
Arsenal need to revamp their midfield this summer, no question about it.
Jorginho has left, Partey is likely to leave once his contract runs out, and Fabio Vieira and Albert Sambi Lokonga don’t look to have a future at N5.
Agoume looks like a good shout for Arsenal, as he has made a name for himself as a top midfielder in La Liga since his move from Inter Milan in 2024.

Meanwhile, Jacek Kulig previously likened Agoume to Patrick Vieira and gave him a rating of 10 out of 10 for his ‘world-class potential’.
FBRef likened Agoume’s style of play to the likes of Moises Caicedo and Eduardo Camavinga.
