Arsenal could use the Emile Smith Rowe money to sign ‘world class’ player
Arsenal are about to receive a hefty transfer windfall after agreeing a deal to sell Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham.
Smith Rowe is set to join Fulham in a £34m deal, and that will give Arsenal a bit more room to manoeuvre in the transfer window.
Of course, Arsenal haven’t been short of cash in recent years, but after last summer’s massive outlay and the arrival of Riccardo Calafiori, the Gunners are in a position where they need to raise a bit of cash.
Speaking on Men in Blazers, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing what Arsenal could now do after selling Smith Rowe, and according to the journalist, the Gunners could use the cash they receive from Smith Rowe to sign Mikel Merino.

Arsenal could use Emile Smith Rowe money to sign Mikel Merino
Romano shared what he knows about Arsenal’s transfer plans and the ‘world class’ midfielder.
“They want to do something in the midfield now. There is a chance for Emile Smith Rowe to leave the club in the coming days with Fulham in advanced negotiations with Arsenal, it is advancing well,” Romano said.
With that money, Financial Fair play again, Arsenal will be able to open negotiations for Mikel Merino. Arsenal are quite optimistic on the player’s side, and then they will start negotiations with Real Sociedad, one year left on his deal, so they feel the price could be good for Mikel Merino this summer.”

Arsenal will be stronger after signing Mikel Merino
Swapping Emile Smith Rowe for Mikel Merino may not be the best trade in terms of ability, but it is a solid trade in terms of squad composition.
Arsenal already have a number of players who can play in Smith Rowe’s position. Meanwhile, they’re lacking quality depth in those deeper midfield areas.
While many Arsenal fans love Smith Rowe, the reality is that Merino will be a more important piece of Mikel Arteta’s jigsaw if the Gunners are able to get this deal done.
This may well be a wise piece of business from the north London club.
