Arsenal could sign ‘unbelievable’ player who was furious with Ben White during USA pre-season tour on deadline day

Arsenal are almost certain to make at least one new signing on deadline day.

The Gunners could still do with a few additions in the coming hours, and Edu Gaspar has cancelled his travel plans to conduct late business at the Emirates.

Arsenal fans are hoping for a new attacker before the window shuts, but the most likely signing will be that of a goalkeeper to replace Aaron Ramsdale, who has officially joined Southampton.

Bournemouth star Neto has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal.

Why Arsenal target Neto was angry with Ben White in pre-season

Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign Neto on a season-long loan deal.

The Gunners need a backup for David Raya in goal, and after failing to strike a deal for Joan Garcia, they have turned to the Bournemouth captain.

Neto travelled to London for his Arsenal medical this morning, and if things go to plan, he will be announced as the Gunners’ latest signing.

Once that’s done, there could be an awkward meeting between Neto and Ben White behind the scenes at the Emirates.

The two players have locked horns in the past. After Reiss Nelson’s dramatic late winner against Bournemouth in March 2023, White celebrated in front of Neto’s face.

Then, during Arsenal’s pre-season tour of the United States this summer, White and Neto were at it once again in a friendly in Los Angeles.

The Arsenal man was up to his usual antics during a set-piece. He was trying to block Neto, and the ‘‘ Brazilian was visibly angry,

Once the ball became dead and the Englishman was heading back, Neto, claims, “immediately charged towards White before shoving him”.

Why are Arsenal signing Neto?

Neto was by no means Arsenal’s preferred target on deadline day.

The Gunners were definitely in the market for a new goalkeeper, but the player Arsenal and Mikel Arteta wanted was Garcia of Espanyol.

Fabrizio Romano revealed that after two rejected bids on Thursday, Arsenal’s plan was to table a new offer on Friday morning for Garcia.

The journalist revealed that if that turned out to be unsuccessful too, Neto would be the player they would sign on a season-long loan deal.

As things stand, it looks like Arsenal have given up on Garcia and will be signing Neto.
