Arsenal could sign attacker once backed to become the ‘best player in Europe’ for £17m

Arsenal are likely to be busy in the transfer market over the coming weeks as Edu and Mikel Arteta look to strengthen their squad.

The Gunners enjoyed another solid season last time out, taking the Premier League title fight to the last day of the campaign.

Next season, Arsenal will be eager to go all the way and get their hands on a trophy that has eluded them since 2004.

The Gunners have been linked with many top players in recent weeks, including one who was once tipped to become the “best player in Europe”.

Fabrizio Romano has now spoken about said player and suggested that a “big opportunity” may arise due to his “cheap” price tag.

Arsenal could land Federico Chiesa for as little as £17million

The player in question is Juventus forward Federico Chiesa, who recently represented Italy at Euro 2024.

Recent reports in Italy suggested that Arsenal are among a host of sides interested in signing the Azzurri star this summer.

Now, Romano has spoken to about Juve’s decision to sell Chiesa and how much they want for him.

“The decision of Juventus has been made in the case of Federico Chiesa,” said the transfer insider. “The player will leave the club this summer, this is the plan.

You may ask me why an important player is being sold. It’s because the new manager, Thiago Motta, wants to go in a different direction.

“Juventus are not counting on him, so Chiesa is expected to be sold by Juventus this summer for something around €20-€25million (£17-21million).

“It’s that cheap because the player is out of contract in summer 2025.

“For sure, Federico Chiesa is a big opportunity on the market, and he will probably have several options to choose from.”

Who is Arsenal target Federico Chiesa?

Federico Chiesa is a 26-year-old attacker who plays his club football for Juventus and represents Italy internationally.

He came through the ranks at Fiorentina before joining Juve in 2020 on an initial loan deal and signing permanently in 2022.

Chiesa has made 131 appearances for the Turin-based outfit, grabbing 34 goals and 25 assists, and has also won 51 caps for Italy, scoring seven times.

Former Italy boss Cesare Prandelli told La Nazione in 2020, via : “Chiesa must specialise in what he feels is his natural tactical position.

“If he does this, he will become the best player in Europe.”

Admittedly, Chiesa , but for less than £20million, a player of his quality in his prime years certainly worth a shout.
