Arsenal could save millions this summer by promoting Emiliano Martinez

Arsenal’s transfer priority this summer is clear. The Gunners need a new goalkeeper to provide competition with Bernd Leno after Petr Cech’s retirement.

David Ospina is expected to leave on a permanent basis this summer. And with Cech retiring, Leno is the only option between the sticks for Arsenal.

Consequently, Arsenal have been linked with numerous goalkeepers. This includes Gianluigi Donnarumma of AC Milan (). But this would cost Arsenal €70m, which is just under £62m.

Norberto Murara is another option. , Arsenal could swoop for the 29-year-old Valencia star.

Either way, Arsenal will be paying a hefty price for a new goalkeeper. But is the solution in front of them now? Should Emiliano Martinez be promoted?

Martinez wants to play first-team football so Unai Emery would have to convince him to stay. But after an impressive spell on loan at Reading, perhaps Martinez is ready to push Leno for a first-team start.

The 26-year-old has come through the ranks at Arsenal. However, he has only played six Premier League games and had 14 outings in total.

In January, the Argentinian stopper joined Reading until the end of the season. He played 18 games and was a standout performer as the Royals stayed in the Championship.

Perhaps Martinez will now be ready to push for the Arsenal starting spot. If he proves himself to Emery in pre-season, he could save Arsenal millions in this department.
