Arsenal could reportedly sign player Wenger admitted he liked while Gunners boss

Arsenal could reportedly be about to welcome Arturo Vidal at The Emirates this summer as Barcelona look to test the Gunners resolve with a swap deal – and Arsene Wenger admitted he was a fan of Vidal while Gunners boss.

Matteo Guendouzi is expected to be sold this summer and Barcelona have emerged as front runners for the Frenchman’s signature. Barcelona are ready to offer the Gunners two players.

Indeed, they claim that they are ready to test Arsenal’s resolve by offering Mikel Arteta the chance to sign Vidal and Ivan Rakitic. Both are well into their thirties but would still cost a considerable sum on the wage bill.

Vidal, 33, has entered the final year of his contract and could well be offered to the Gunners. Back in 2015, Wenger admitted he liked Vidal, “If you want me to say I like Arturo Vidal, yes I like Arturo Vidal.”

TBR’s view – Would Vidal be a good addition, now he is 33?

At 28 years of age, when Wenger made those comments, Vidal would have been an excellent addition and would have had four, five years still at his best. But is Vidal good enough now?

Certainly, he still boasts plenty of quality – but is he as good as the player that Wenger admired in 2015? Arguably, Vidal is no longer that good but he would still be a top signing for if Arsenal can get him on a decent deal.
