Arsenal could reportedly land ‘fearsome’ 77-cap striker for just £25m this summer, fans should be thrilled – TBR View

With the Premier League season now over, Arsenal can focus on bolstering their ranks ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

One position the Gunners will likely prioritise is centre-forward.

At present, Mikel Arteta has just two senior strikers in his ranks, and both their contracts expire soon.

Plenty of forwards have been linked with Arsenal in recent months.

And one who the Gunners are apparently eyeing would be a great shout for the club.

Spanish outlet – via the – recently reported that Arsenal have enquired about Memphis Depay.

The Netherlands international joined Barcelona on a free transfer last summer.

Depay penned a contract with a €400million (£339million) release clause.

He has registered 12 goals and two assists from 28 La Liga appearances this season.

However, the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January has seen Depay often play out wide under Xavi.

And if reports of Robert Lewandowski wanting to join Barca are true, this would see Depay fall down the pecking order.

Depay only signed a two-year contract at Barca, with his current deal expiring at the end of next season.

And Barca may well look to cash in and make a profit on a player they snapped up for nothing.

Can Arsenal reignite Depay’s Premier League career?

According to Barca would be willing to accept around £25million to sell Depay.

If this report is true, then Arsenal must not pass up on the opportunity to sign the “” forward.

Depay has developed a lot since his difficult spell at Manchester United several years ago.

The 28-year-old got his career back on track at Lyon, registering 76 goals and 55 assists from 178 appearances.

Depay’s maiden Barca campaign tally stands at 13 goals and two assists, despite some injury issues mid-season.

And he also has 77 Netherlands caps to his name, with an impressive 39 goals and 29 assists in orange.

Depay is also versatile, able to play across the whole front line and as a second striker.

With Arsenal reportedly also looking for fresh legs on the left side of attack, this would benefit the team greatly.

Depay is talented, in the prime of his career, has Premier League experience, wouldn’t break the bank, and probably feels he has a lot to prove in the English top flight.

This makes him a great shout for Arsenal as they look to build on a decent 2021-22 campaign.
