Arsenal could now be about to make a free transfer who Jamie Carragher said plays like ‘Ryan Giggs at his best’
There is no doubt whatsoever that Arsenal need attacking reinforcements.
Much more could have been made of the 2024/25 campaign if Mikel Arteta had greater depth in quality in his forward line, after Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus all suffered serious injuries, which led a central midfielder in Mikel Merino to act as a striker throughout the business end of the season.
Andrea Berta – Director of Football at the Emirates Stadium – is at least looking to rectify this problem for Arsenal, and a cheap fix could be found in Leroy Sane.
Arsenal told they are chasing another Ryan Giggs in Leroy Sane
Arteta knows the Germany international well from his time working alongside Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, and a reunion could now be on.
TBR Football understand Arsenal are holding discussions about Sane, and are thinking about offering the winger a contract as he nears free agency.
Should a move materialise, the deal would presumably be one Jamie Carragher approves of.
The Sky Sports pundit once hailed the German as a superstar after he tore Arsenal apart at the Emirates Stadium, scoring the third to send Manchester City into the break 3-0 up back in March 2018.

Analysing the game, Carragher praised Sane emphatically, saying: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen three goals in one half of football as good as this. This from Sane… it’s Ryan Giggs at his best.”
The man from Bootle heaped further adulation on the 29-year-old back in September 2022 after he took the UEFA Champions League by storm, telling CBS Sports: “Sane, he’s not someone we talk about as one of the best players in Europe, but, if you think of the first two Champions League matchdays, then there is probably nobody who can touch him.”
The Essen-born forward does play similarly to Giggs, using his leggy frame and superb dribbling skills to bamboozle opponents, while also possessing impressive end product.

What Leroy Sane has already said about Mikel Arteta
The German spoke to the Independent in 2020 about Arteta, and was full of praise for the Spaniard.

Sane said: “I can (only) say positive things about Arteta. Since we started working together, he helped me a lot on the pitch.
“He tried to improve my football. He told me what I did good and what I did wrong, and he tried to work on it. Next to Pep, they both really helped me and improved me, to bring me to the next level.
“Even now, at Arsenal, for me you can see he’s doing a great job. You can see he has a concept, a way that he wants to play, a way that he wants his team to play.”
Arsenal’s bitter rivals Tottenham have also been linked to Sane, but if the Bayern Munich No.10 still feels this way about Arteta, we would presume the Gunners are in pole position ahead of Spurs.
