Arsenal could actually make a signing even after the transfer deadline

The transfer window closes on Friday 30th August – with Arsenal only making one signing so far in the form of Riccardo Calafiori.

A second arrival is on the way, with Mikel Merino undergoing a medical at Arsenal after Real Sociedad accepted a £32.6m bid from the Gunners.

However – even after the transfer window shuts – Arsenal could still make another signing…

How Arsenal can do business even once the transfer window closes

There are actually two players Arsenal could sign, even once September begins.

As you may already know, clubs can sign free agents whenever, as those without a contract can agree to join whoever they want, whenever they want if an offer is presented.

At the time of writing, one free agent currently being looked at by Arsenal is Adrien Rabiot.

A story from claimed that Mikel Arteta admires Rabiot and feels his experience could benefit Arsenal greatly – while the France international would not cost a penny in transfer fees after he decided to leave Juventus.

Interestingly, Liverpool are also looking at Rabiot – but if the France international fails to find a new club before the transfer deadline, Arsenal can still offer him a contract.

Incidentally, Wojciech Szczesny has also walked away from Juventus, with the Poland international seeing his contract terminated by the Italian giants, unlike Rabiot, whose deal simply expired.

A story from the has claimed that Arsenal are considering a swoop for Szczesny – as Arteta aims to find a new No.2 after accepting Aaron Ramsdale’s desire to leave.

As things stand, Wolves have made a loan bid to sign Ramsdale, and seem most likely to land the England international.

Szczesny is an attractive option for Arsenal because he still qualifies as a homegrown player, while – like Rabiot – he also won’t cost anything in transfer fees, just wages.

Of course, Edu Gaspar – Director of Football at the Emirates Stadium – presumably wants to finalise Arsenal’s business before the transfer window shuts.

However, if those at Arsenal remain unsatisfied with the central midfield and goalkeeping departments beyond Friday 30th August, Rabiot and Szczesny represent two emergency options who could be signed after the deadline.
