Arsenal: Club legend warns supporters; Perez ‘happy’ in London; Scouts turned away from Lincoln City match

Arsene Wenger’s future will be a major talking point over the coming months. There is a clear division in the Arsenal fanbase between those that want him to stay and those that want him to leave. The defeat against Bayern Munich will be difficult for him to recover from, but it isn’t impossible, especially if the team finishes in the top four and wins the FA Cup. Although that won’t be good enough for some supporters, it will be for the board and they are the ones that have the authority to make a decision on the manager.

“Lots of fans have been brought up on the team he created. With players like Patrick Vieira and Emmanuel Petit.

“They are craving those days again, but it’s easier said than done. Be careful what you wish for.”

The Premier League is a difficult competition to win as there are six very good sides and the rest of the division is improving all the time. Arsenal are slowly making progress and Wenger has spearheaded that. Those in football recognise how well the Frenchman has done over the last ten years, even if a growing section of the club’s support doesn’t.

There has been speculation linking Lucas Perez with a move away, as the Spaniard was believed to be unhappy at the club. He hasn’t had as many first team opportunities as he expected and that has led to some suggesting that he could be moving on in the summer. However, the forward has been talking to and he has stated that he is happy in London.

“London is great – it’s got everything so you could never get bored here. Whatever you might want to do – going out to eat, to the cinema, to the theatre, any activity – you can do it all in London.”

These comments do need to be looked at slightly differently as they are coming from the official website. If Perez had stated that he was looking to move on at the end of the season, they wouldn’t have posted the quotes as it is a vehicle for positivity. However, his performance against Sutton United combined with these comments suggest that he could yet have a future at the club. The next few months are important and he will still believe that he can break into the first team. It will be interesting to see if he does so.

Arsenal are facing another test against a non-league side in the next round of the FA Cup. Lincoln City will be coming to the Emirates Stadium and it is important that the Gunners don’t underestimate them, as they did manage to beat Burnley in the last round. The club are doing their best to prepare for the fixture and they tried to send scouts to the Imps’ match against North Ferriby United.

This shows the difference between the two teams. They won’t be used to having a request like this turned down, but there is plenty of time for them to scout Lincoln and they will do so over the coming weeks. Wenger paid a lot of respect to Sutton United and deserves credit for how he dealt with the tie. He showed class and I would expect something similar when they face the Imps in the next round.
