Arsenal close to loaning player who’s a ‘joke in training’ to Ipswich for the season

Arsenal are dominating the last few hours of the transfer window, with incomings and outgoings both on the cards ahead of the deadline.

The Gunners have made two big signings already this summer, bringing Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have also moved several first-team players on, including Emile Smith Rowe and Aaron Ramsdale, while Eddie Nketiah is apparently close to joining Crystal Palace.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on another Arsenal first-teamer, who could soon be joining another Premier League club on loan.

Arsenal ace Reiss Nelson nearing Ipswich Town switch

The player in question is Reiss Nelson, who has been linked with a move away from Arsenal in the past few hours.

There have been reports claiming several clubs are in pursuit of the Hale End graduate’s services, and now a name has emerged.

Romano has taken to X to say Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town are in advanced talks to sign Nelson on loan.

The transfer insider also suggested the 24-year-old’s switch to the Tractor Boys could “open the doors to Raheem Sterling to Arsenal from Chelsea”.

David Ornstein has also provided a similar update.

Arsenal player with ‘elite mindset’ set for Ipswich switch

While fans of other teams have likely checked out of the rumour mill, with little to no business awaiting them in the final few hours, Arsenal fans will be eagerly refreshing the feeds to see what happens next.

Sterling is seemingly closing in on a move to the Emirates Stadium, and as Romano has said, Nelson leaving will open up a spot in the squad that the Chelsea ace can fill.

Meanwhile, Ipswich will be getting themselves a top player who has plenty to offer in the Premier League.

“He was a joke in training,” Alex Iwobi previously said about Nelson on The Beautiful Game Podcast, via .

“He used to do bare tricks, sometimes they’d say to him ‘Reiss it’s only three touch’ and he’d still be twisting up man but still creating a chance.

“He’s another one who has that raw street ability and I have to give it to him, he’s been patient.

“I think before we played them and he wasn’t even playing, he was just chilling, and I have to respect that, every time he’s come on to play he’s delivered, I think he’s been the most impactful sub this season, so I have to give it to him.

“For someone to be able to do that and not be playing regularly, to have that elite mindset to know that you’re going into a game and I’m going to do my thing and make sure I help the team win, I have to rate it.”
