Arsenal clash with Man United over transfer issue as new talks scheduled
Arsenal and Man United are among the clubs who may be set to reopen an old dispute relating to the transfer window.
It has been a relatively low spending summer across the Premier League, with clubs still facing legacy issues from the pandemic, as well as a lack of Saudi spending making for a more illiquid market.
Man United managed to avoid the pre-30th June scramble to get sales over the line in time for the PSR deadline, thanks in part to a large chunk of losses they attributed to the pandemic.

They have gone on to spend close to £140m, with Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee and Noussair Mazzraoui all joining the club.
Arsenal, who in recent days have been linked with Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, have brought Mikel Merino and Riccardo Califiori to the club after making David Raya’s loan move from Brentford permanent earlier in the summer.
PSR constraints mean that United are unlikely do to any major business before the transfer window closes on 30th June.
Both United and Arsenal have played two matches this season, in a quirk of the transfer window which sees players able to move teams after the season has already begun.
However, the latest news may mean that is not the case indefinitely.

Arsenal and Man United vote differently on transfer window dates
Under the Premier League’s constitution, new rules require the backing of two-thirds of clubs to introduce.
Back in 2017, a motion was table proposing that the transfer window close date be brought forward until before the start of the season.
A new report from has revealed that United were against the clubs to voted against that proposal, while Arsenal cast their ballot the other way.
Significantly, it has now emerged that the European Leagues organisation will soon hold talks on whether there can be a cross-UEFA consensus as to whether to close the window earlier across the continent.
The move would likely need unilateral support, as one league closing their window earlier would leave them vulnerable to losing players without finding an alternative.

Arsenal and Man United’s stances analysed
Advocates such as Arsenal for closing the Premier League transfer window before the season starts argue that it brings stability by ensuring teams have settled squads, allowing players and managers to focus on the competition from day one.

However, opponents like United contend that this approach could leave English clubs at a disadvantage, as other European leagues have later deadlines, giving them more time to make transfers.
This discrepancy could prevent Premier League teams from effectively responding to last-minute changes, potentially weakening their position in both domestic and European competitions.
