Arsenal believe ‘special’ £53m midfielder could replace Thomas Partey
Arsenal believe Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi could be the man to replace Thomas Partey this summer.
That’s according to Charles Watts, with the journalist providing an update on Arsenal’s plans to bolster their options midfield.
Thomas Partey has recently returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, getting some minutes under his belt at Sheffield United and at home to Brentford.
The 30-year-old has managed just seven appearances in all competitions this term due to injuries and his days at Arsenal appear to be numbered.
Indeed, there have already been claims that Partey could head out the door should Jorginho sign a new contract.
And after another season hampered by injuries, Arsenal could look at Martin Zubimendi to replace the Ghanaian.

Arsenal believe Zubimendi could replace Partey
Speaking to , Watts claimed there is a belief at Arsenal that Zubimendi could play the Partey role in midfield.
But it will be a difficult deal for the Gunners to pull off due to rival interest and doubts over the ‘special‘ midfielder’s desire to leave Sociedad.
“Should that happen [Partey leaving], then they would have to replace him and Martin Zubimendi is a player they believe can play the Partey role,” the journalist said.
“Mikel Arteta knows Zubimendi well and is a big admirer of the Spain international, but there is uncertainty around whether he actually wants to leave Real Sociedad.
“There is also expected to be strong rival interest in the 25-year-old, so it might not be an easy deal to get done.”

Zubimendi has been on Arsenal’s radar for quite some time now and it’s clear that Arteta admires the 25-year-old. Indeed, Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that the Gunners boss is a huge fan of Zubimendi.
The Spanish midfielder continues to impress in La Liga, racking up four goals and one assist from the middle of the park this term.
While Partey has been a fantastic player for Arteta over the past four years, it does feel like the right time to replace him.
The Ghana international has struggled with persistent injuries and after Declan Rice’s arrival, his importance to Arteta’s side has become less apparent.
Zubimendi reportedly has a release clause in his contract this summer, which would make dealing with Sociedad straightforward for the Gunners at least.
