Arsenal being unable to replace Cech is unacceptable for a side with their ambitions

Arsenal cannot afford to buy a second-choice goalkeeper to replace the retiring Petr Cech,

They that Emiliano Martinez – who is currently on loan at Reading – will be Bernt Leno’s backup next season because the Gunners’ budget doesn’t stretch to a replacement for Cech.

The says that Unai Emery’s summer budget is just £40m and the Spaniard wants to spend the money elsewhere, with a replacement for the departing Aaron Ramsey among the priorities.

Earlier this month, the that Arsenal had their eye on Nick Pope from relegation-battling Burnley, after the England international slipped behind countrymen Tom Heaton and Joe Hart in the Clarets pecking order.

It’s easy to understand why Emery wants to prioritise his spending elsewhere but the fact of the matter is that at a club such as Arsenal, he shouldn’t have to be so stingy.

Other top clubs across Europe have two excellent goalkeepers fighting for the jersey; Arsenal may be left in a situation where Martinez is a regular option if Leno picks up an injury.

It’s not good enough that Arsenal don’t have the financial muscle to go and pluck an outcast from the side 15th in the Premier League while also having enough money to go around elsewhere.
