Arsenal are wise to take steps to avoid more star names leaving on the cheap
Arsenal are taking steps to make sure that they do not lose any more players on a free transfer in the way that Aaron Ramsey is about to this summer,
Under Arsene Wenger, the Gunners got into something of a habit of losing their top talent – and almost never for market value – with Alexis Sanchez being another recent example.
Much of the issue revolved around not tying players down to long-term contracts, which is a symptom of the way the club drifted under the Frenchman.
But Unai Emery has been charged with giving the club new direction and he will offload players with under two years left on their deal to ensure that those assets do not dwindle in the same way Ramsey has.

Emery was not given a bumper budget in his first summer and he cannot afford to let players leave for nothing if he is looking to not only replace them but upgrade on them as he looks to take Arsenal back to where they want to be.
The club does a lot of things right behind the scenes but they need to start operating more smoothly on the football side in terms of selling if they are to give their manager the money he needs to put the squad in the right shape.
