Arsenal and Spurs should expect Bayern’s Jerome Boateng stance to change
that both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Jerome Boateng with the centre-back set to be a free agent next summer.
According to the report, Bayern Munich are not planning to extend his deal. And it would appear that the Gunners and Spurs are interested in offering him a return to the Premier League.
Boateng turned 32 earlier this season. So you can understand why the Bavarian giants may have their reservations about offering him fresh terms.
It must also be noted that he earns ÂŁ196,000-a-week, . So that may also help explain why Bayern are reportedly prepared to let him go.
However, there is still some time to go before the campaign concludes. And given the role Boateng is currently playing for Hansi Flick’s side, perhaps it should come as no surprise to Arsenal and Tottenham if Bayern’s stance changes before his potential departure.
Boateng remains key man at Bayern
The former Germany international remains a key man at the Allianz Arena. He has started seven of their first eight games in the Bundesliga. And he has also made two starts in the Champions League group-stages.
He is already well on his way to eclipsing his tally of league appearances in a single campaign for the last few years. His 24 appearances last season was the most he managed since 2014/15.
So while Boateng’s best years may be behind him, it appears that he remains as important in Munich as he has been at any other time in recent years. And if his run in the side continues, it may be harder for his club to let him go.
Bayern are no strangers to making ruthless decisions. So there may be every chance that Mikel Arteta and Jose Mourinho still get the opportunity to land him on a free next summer.
But with Boateng still a regular starter and plenty of time left in the campaign, the North London pair would surely be wise to brace themselves for disappointment.
