Arsenal and Liverpool contacted about potentially signing £65m Barcelona player

TBR Football understands that Arsenal and Liverpool have been contacted about potentially signing Frenkie De Jong from Barcelona this summer.

Arsenal and Liverpool are both potentially in the market for a new midfielder in the coming months.

Indeed, Liverpool tried to sign Martin Zubimendi last summer to no avail, so there’s still a spot that needs filling in the Redsmidfield.

Meanwhile, Arsenal want to sign Martin Zubimendi this summer, but with Real Madrid in for Zubimendi too, Arsenal may have to look elsewhere.

Frenkie De Jong is another star from La Liga, and he could be Premier League-bound this summer.

Arsenal and Liverpool contacted about Frenkie De Jong

TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey understands that Frenkie De Jong’s long-term future at Barcelona is far from certain and intermediaries are touching base with suitors to gauge their interest.

TBR Football can reveal that Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea. Manchester City and Manchester United are the clubs to have been contacted and informed of his situation  with a view to a possible deal this summer.

Barcelona insist that they still see De Jong as a major part of their squad, but realistically he is no longer a first choice in their midfield with homegrown starlets Pedri, Gavi and Marc Casado all starting ahead of him.

The man has been limited to just four league starts under Hansi Flick this season, and he is now believed to be considering his options.

De Jong is one of the high earners at Barca, making a deal difficult but as he is still on 27 sources have confirmed to TBR Football that there is interest in England in luring the former Ajax ace to the Premier League.

Frenkie De Jong compared to Martin Zubimendi

It looks like it could be a tale to two La Liga stars this summer as Premier League clubs look to bolster their midfield.

Indeed, Martin Zubimendi and Frenkie De Jong are both being linked with moves to top Premier League clubs.

Both players are fantastic talents, and it’s interesting to compare the two statistically.

In a lot of ways, De Jong does outperform Zubimendi statistically.

However, De Jong is playing for a stronger team, so that may contribute to his stats being that bit better in certain areas.

Zubimendi is the younger option, and he may be the more economical option given De Jong’s hefty wages at Barcelona compared to Zubimendi’s more modest pay-packet in San Sebastian.

De Jong and Zubimendi could both be on the move this summer, and it wouldn’t be a shock if both ended up in the Premier League.
