Arsenal actually wanted to sign ‘world-class’ Chelsea star in January and they could try again this summer

Arsenal have been a level above Chelsea in recent years.

The Gunners have challenged for the Premier League title in each of the last three seasons, and although they haven’t won it yet, they are on the right path.

Chelsea, on the other hand, haven’t been great over the last few years, and they are nowhere near competing for the Premier League title yet.

Despite that, Arsenal have signed two Chelsea players in the last two years, and they were interested in another one in the January transfer window.

Arsenal expected to make move for Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku

Christopher Nkunku has had an awful time at Chelsea.

The Frenchman joined the Blues in a deal worth £52 million in the summer of 2023, and many people expected him to be a success at Stamford Bridge.

However, the 27-year-old has made just 52 appearances for the Blues and has scored 17 goals, which is not a great return at all.

Despite that, have claimed that Arsenal were interested in signing the Chelsea attacker in the winter transfer window.

As TBR Football revealed at the time, Bayern Munich also wanted to sign Nkunku, but no move materialised in the end.

Now, the report claims that both Arsenal and Bayern are expected to ‘return to the charge’ for Nkunku in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Should Arsenal sign Christopher Nkunku this summer?

Nkunku showed during his time in the Bundesliga that he is a terrific talent.

The France international scored 70 goals and provided 55 assists in 172 games for RB Leipzig, which is a very impressive return.

But, Nkunku has not been great at Chelsea in the Premier League, and even though he possesses a lot of good traits, he is not what Arsenal need.

The Gunners should be aiming to sign a striker who will guarantee 25 to 30 goals a season. They need someone who will bury almost every chance he gets.

Nkunku is just not that player, so it makes no sense to sign him.
