‘Around the place’: PL boss shares what £22m player Tottenham have been given chance to sign has now been like

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has been asked about the situation of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Last month, reported that Tottenham had been given the chance to sign Mendy as they look to replace Hugo Lloris long term.

That report said that Mendy had been offered to Spurs and this week the reported that he had turned down a new contract offer at Stamford Bridge.

Potter was asked about the man as he prepares his side to return to action against Bournemouth after Christmas.

Potter said: “It’s not my place, I don’t think, to speak publicly about players’ contract situations.

“I think that’s between them at the club.

“Mendy has been absolutely top with us and with me. Great guy, happy around the place.

“In terms of his contract, not for me to comment.”

It remains to be seen who Tottenham really go for as they put their succession plan in place for Lloris, who is currently getting over World Cup heartbreak with France.

He is still their captain and performing at the top of his game but Spurs do not want to get caught behind the curve in terms of replacing him when the right time comes.

Whether Mendy is that man remains to be seen, with Spurs linked with a host of goalkeepers amid Antonio Conte’s talks over a new deal where he wants backing in the transfer market.
