Arne Slot must act fast to avoid Trent Alexander-Arnold 2.0 as Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid is confirmed
Former Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso has officially been appointed the manager of Real Madrid, where he’ll have new signing Trent Alexander-Arnold at his disposal.
Alexander-Arnold joins Madrid after 20 long years at Anfield, much to the disappointment of Liverpool fans.
Alas, they forgave him on the final day. As Liverpool lifted the Premier League, a chorus of cheers rang out for Alexander-Arnold, seemingly forgiving him for his betrayal. Plus, not many can resist the allure of Real Madrid as a player.

This is exactly why Liverpool boss Arne Slot must act fast with one of his star players.
Arne Slot must be quick if he wants to avoid Ibrahima Konate going to Real Madrid
Ibrahima Konate has also been a Liverpool player on Real Madrid’s radar this summer.
Despite signing Liverpool target Dean Huijsen, Madrid are still in the market for another new centre-back for Alonso to have at his disposal – with Konate on a suspected shortlist.
Konate’s contract at Anfield is set to expire in 2026, meaning that if Slot doesn’t act to extend, they may have to sell this summer, or risk losing him for free after the 25/26 campaign.
TBR revealed Konate may be sold by Liverpool, with transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey reporting that “We really can’t underestimate just how worried Liverpool are by Konate’s situation”.

Bailey continued: “All the clubs love him – we know Real Madrid but PSG like him a lot and Bayern Munich.”
So why haven’t the Reds acted? Well, Konate wants a significant pay rise to make him one of the highest earners in Liverpool’s squad. Both parties are stalling, but stall too long, and Konate could seek an avenue away from the club.
Antonio Rudiger likes Ibrahima Konate post
To add fuel to the fire, Madrid centre-back Antonio Rudiger liked the most recent post of Konate’s on Instagram.
The French defender took to socials after Liverpool lifted the Premier League title on Sunday, sending Reds supporters the following message.
‘Premier League Champions,’ Konate wrote. ‘A special moment for a special football club. This is for the best fans in the world. This is for you. And a perfect birthday gift.’
You can’t think too much into this, but I’m sure Real Madrid certainly wouldn’t say no to a second Liverpool star joining alongside Trent this summer, or the next.
