Arne Slot left amazed by what one Liverpool player did vs Aston Villa before Darwin Nunez’s shocking miss

Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The Reds have now dropped four points in their last three games, and that has given Arsenal a little hope that they may still be alive in the title race.

A draw, perhaps, was the fair result at Villa Park on Wednesday night, but both sides had big chances to convert the one point into three.

The biggest opportunity fell to Darwin Nunez’s feet, but the Uruguay international made a meal of what seemed like a simple tap-in.

But, one player really impressed Arne Slot in the move that led to Nunez’s chance.

Arne Slot praises Dominik Szoboszlai after Liverpool’s draw vs Aston Villa

Dominik Szoboszlai is having a fine season at Liverpool.

The Hungary international has been a regular under Slot since the Dutchman arrived at the club, and his performances have almost always been great this term.

Szoboszlai was very good against Aston Villa on Wednesday night as well, and he deserved to pick up at least one assist in the second half.

The 24-year-old made a great run in the 69th minute to get on the end of a pass from Conor Bradley, and just as it seemed like he would have a shot at goal, he squared it to Nunez.

The Uruguayan should have scored, but his left-footed attempt flew over the bar. It really was a terrible miss – one that cost Liverpool two valuable points.

In his press conference, Slot was asked about Nunez’s miss. Instead of criticising his striker, the Reds boss decided to praise Szoboszlai’s role in the build-up.

He said, as per : “What I saw was an unbelievable pass from Conor Bradley and what a power run from Dominik Szoboszlai, who made, in my opinion, the perfect choice to square it [as] from a one-v-one to the goalkeeper he made it an open-goal chance.

“Then Darwin, of course, it was not the best leg [because] he is right-footed, of course, but it was still a big chance.”

Nunez made another big mistake during Aston Villa vs Liverpool

Nunez had barely touched the ball before he found himself at the end of Szoboszlai’s pass, and he really should’ve buried it.

That miss cost Liverpool the chance to re-take the lead, but that wasn’t all.

Later in the second half, Nunez was through on goal, but Emiliano Martinez came flying out and tackled the ball out of the striker’s feet.

Any mistake from the Argentine there would’ve been disastrous, but Nunez wasn’t quick enough to get the ball away from him or at least win a foul.

This is why Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool this summer – things are just not working for him.
