Argentine journalist has just shared fresh injury update on Tottenham star Cristian Romero

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has struggled for fitness recently.

The Spurs star missed matches against Newcastle and Bournemouth either side of the Sporting CP clash.

And ahead of Tottenham’s meeting with Marseille, Cristian Stellini said the 24-year-old was still “not available”.

Earlier today, TyC journalist Gaston Edul said Romero was undergoing tests to determine whether he had an injury.

The Argentina international was carrying muscle fatigue, but there were fears it was something more serious.

Now, Edul has just shared news which Albiceleste fans will welcome with a sigh of relief.

Romero has a muscle strain which should take about 10 days to clear up, the reporter wrote on Twitter.

While this is good news for Argentina fans ahead of the World Cup, it’s not quite so good for Spurs supporters.

Tottenham have three games left before the break for the tournament, and Romero looks set to miss at least two.

The last match before the international break – Spurs v Leeds – is 10 days from now.

So it remains to be seen whether Antonio Conte will risk Romero for that match.

‘We have to wait for a medical assessment’

Tottenham are also sweating over the fitness of Son Heung-min after he came off against Marseille.

The Spurs forward collided with Chancel Mbemba when challenging for a header.

Son won the 50/50 duel but came off worse and looked in serious discomfort as he received lengthy medical attention.

The 30-year-old, who had taken a shoulder to the jaw, eventually rose to his feet.

However, the Tottenham physios were unwilling to let him continue after concussion checks.

More worryingly, Son appeared to struggle walking off the pitch and was assisted by Spurs’ medical team.

Stellini told  post-match: “In this moment we don’t know. We have to wait for a medical assessment.

“Sonny feels better now. I saw him in the dressing room, he celebrated with us.

“In this moment we don’t know. We have to wait for a medical assessment and we have to wait until tomorrow.

“We are not sure if he is concussed. It is Son’s face. His eye is a bit swollen.”
