Argentina national media deliver verdicts on Tottenham’s Cristian Romero’s display after winning Copa America

At 26-years-old, Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has now won a World Cup medal and two Copa America honours.

Romero played 90 minutes in Argentina’s famous 1-0 win against Colombia in the early hours of Monday morning, leading to consecutive Copa America wins.

And when you consider that Romero only has 35 caps for his county, it’s a remarkable rate of success.

Ange Postecoglou and the Tottenham staff must be incredibly proud of their defender, who has definitely matured since their new project began.

Romero continued his excellent partnership alongside Micky van de Ven at club to look similar adept alongside Manchester United left-footer Lisandro Martinez for his country.

Incidentally, Giovani Lo Celso entered the game in the 97th minute in extra-time alongside Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, who ultimately won the game.

That being said, Argentina media outlets have now been sharing their reaction to Romero’s ‘exceptionalperformance against Colombia.

Cristian Romero hailed as an ‘untamed lionin Argentina’s Copa America win

Alongside a few other excellent performers, Romero delivered a player of the match worthy display judging by local reports.

They wrote: “Another exceptional performance by the man who is now one of the best defenders in the world and in the history of the Argentine national team.

“Practically flawless. Set the standard for holding out every set-piece against him and even almost converting one in his own favour./p>

weren’t quite as generous, handing Romero a 7/10, but still stated that he seldom lost a defensive duel.

“Cuti had a great first half, as he was strong from the top and barely lost any duels from below.

“In the second half he maintained his level and was one of the best in Argentina’s last line./p>

Romero already plays like a ‘veteranat 26-years-old

“He cuts, anticipates, and is brave enough to rub shoulders and get into close combat.

“He fought with Córdoba and then got into a tangle with Borja. A defender who defends by attacking, in each intervention he brings the team out from the back.

“At 26, he already shows the poise of a veteran, 9/10./p>

All in all, a lot of reason for Tottenham fans to be excited about Romero’s eventual return to pre-season.

And fortunately for all of a Spurs persuasion, Postecoglou has got his wish and Romero won’t be playing at the Paris Olympics this summer.Â
